WA Govt needs to fix anti-discrimination laws 86% of WA people support sexuality, gender identity protections 1 July 2009
The Galaxy Poll, conducted on 12-14 June 2009, shows that an overwhelming majority of 86% of Western Australians support anti-discrimination laws on the basis of sexuality and gender identity, while a mere 8% do not.
GALE spokesperson Rod Swift said the new poll shows that the community clearly supports a fair go for all people, irrespective of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
"This latest poll again shows that Western Australians believe that everyone deserves a fair go and protection from unfair and unwarranted discrimination," Mr Swift said. |

Marriage Equality NDA Planning Day - Mark two |

June 26th, 2009: National Day of Action for Marriage Equality Planning Day - Mark Two
In the lead up to the fifth anniversary of the Howard Government's ban on same-sex marriage, GLBTI activist and community groups across the country are beginning to make preparations for the August National Day of Action against Homophobia and discrimination against GLBTI people and their families.
With the National Day of Action for Marriage Equality on 1 August 2009, Gay and Lesbian Equality is hoping to bring the Perth GLBTI community together for a forum to plan WA's contribution to the day's events. Following the first forum the previous week, it is hoped to have a larger turn-out to continue the planning for the event. There were some very interesting ideas floated at the forum on the 20th, including holding the event in Colin Barnett's electorate as an open, inclusive and engaging family event that all GLBTI people and their supporters can attend, with speakers and performers. The forum will be held at Room 3.116, Building 3, Edith Cowan University Mt Lawley Campus, Bradford Street, Mount Lawley, on Friday 26 June 2009 from 5.30pm to 8.30pm. |
