

Birney calls Labor morally bankrupt

NEWSREADER (ABC Radio) - There have been rowdy scenes in State Parliament during lengthy debate on gay law reform.
Alison Carter reports, the Opposition has rejected plans to lower the
age of consent for gay males and give homosexual people the right to
adopt children.
ALISON CARTER (Reporter, ABC Radio News) - The Opposition agrees
discrimination on the grounds of sexuality should be illegal, but the
Liberals, Nationals and some Independents want the plans covering
adoption, fertility treatment, sex education and the age of consent put
out for community consultation.
The Member for Kalgoorlie, Matt Birney, evoked jeers from the public
gallery when he called the Government morally bankrupt and said the
bill prioritises gay rights over those of children.
