NEWSREADER (ABC Radio) - Debate resumed in State Parliament over night, on the Government
JOANNA MENAGH (Reporter, ABC Radio News) - Liberal and One Nation members expressed their objections to the proposed legislation, particularly the lowering of the age of consent for male homosexuals to 16 and the allowing of same sex couples to adopt children and have access to invitro fertilisation treatment.
In his speech, One Nation member, John Fischer, claimed the changes would open the door to legal challenges by children who, he claimed, would be brought up in dysfunctional families.
Later, Opposition member, Robyn McSweeney, said she was ashamed to be standing in Parliament talking about homosexual practices, which she maintained were not normal.
Debate will resume later today.
